Streaming the NFL

This year, for the first time ever, the NFL will be streaming a game worldwide. Now while the game itself may not be a very exciting match-up (Jaguars vs. Bills), the motive behind this initiative is far-reaching.

The NFL plans to deliver this streaming capability by partnering with a service or website that has yet to be named. Google, Facebook, and even Apple come to mind and can bring high quality streaming to a robust market of their own. Combine the audience of the NFL with that of the tech giants and all executives will be seeing is dollar signs.

Professional sports game streaming is already a thriving underground, illegal practice as mentioned here. Bringing some legitimacy to the practice in combination with a regulated quality of video and no sketchy pop-up ads is something viewers have been clamoring for for years.

The amount of people that tune in to watch this less-than-stellar match-up may be limited, but there has never been more impetus behind a Jaguars vs. Bills game.
