Stealing Media

Recently Swedish officials raided the most popular, Stockholm-based, online file-sharing server, The Pirate Bay. They seized computers, servers, and other equipment in hopes of quashing the underground, and largely illegal, torrent site.

However, the minds behind TPB seem to be rebuilding one step at a time. Days after the raid, a timer was put on the site, counting the days, hours, and minutes the service had been down. Now, the timer has been reversed… Counting down the minutes until, quite possibly, the site is up and running again.

Nowadays, finding free media online through torrent hosts like TPB is ridiculously easy. All it takes is one Google search. The troubling aspect for media companies is everyone is doing it. The rise in free streaming and file-sharing is forcing media marketers to get creative in order to remain profitable. The looming question is: how can we make money when people keep stealing our content (especially with torrent giants like TPB and Kickass)?

As of now, there is not concrete answer. The problem isn’t going away. But the countdown to a solution has begun – media markers, better start thinking fast.
