16 Jan Facebook Emerges As Video King
Facebook’s video player is powerful… and it’s pissing people off, namely YouTube. In recent months, YouTube has struggled on Facebook, a platform on which it had previously excelled. This decline correlates to media companies and buyers posting their content directly to Facebook instead of the traditional method of posting to YouTube and trickling into social media.
The thing is, this method is working. Early adopters of this media strategy are seeing nearly immediate success. Buzzfeed, for example, had almost completely stopped posting videos straight to YouTube a year ago. By posting straight to Facebook, Buzzfeed was able to significantly increase both impressions and shares. Click here to see a graphic of this info.
Because of this trend, the other major players are developing their video players. Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram are improving upon or rolling out new video players to keep up with Facebook and its success with media buyers.
But it may be too late. Rolling with the momentum of being the first with a robust video/media plan, analysts predict this is just the beginning of Facebook’s capabilities.
Could event-themed or live video be next? What about television on Facebook? The possibilities are endless.
