27 Jan #blizzard
Social media marketing is all about leveraging situations to work for your advantage. Today, the only thing people on the east coast are focused on is the blizzard that has engulfed New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts in over a foot of snow. The temperature is 17 degrees with the wind from this blustery snow taking us down to a feels-like temperature of 1 degree.
Ironically, Dairy Queen, the ice cream giant, has used the blizzard to spark a mini social media campaign. On twitter, #blizzard is trending and every time someone uses that hashtag, Dairy Queen responded to that individual with a line of their own about the Blizzard DQ offers.
It is social media use like this that drives the creativity behind social media marketing. If you don’t post on something relevant and interesting, people just aren’t going to care. Post about something that no one can forget (as we sit here working from home because all the major highways are closed) and you just might create a buzz.
Now, even with temperatures reaching into the negatives and snow swirling around us, don’t you kind of want a DQ Blizzard?
